The Fandads review Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 earlier in the year and you can read that review here. So what is different watching the movie at home? Well, it’s the special features of course and getting to hear all of the lines that you missed the first time around due to all the laughing in the movie theater.
2. Rocket and the Ravagers – This was a pretty cool scene just to see how clever Rocket is when it’s only him and a squadron of Ravagers. Can we call them a squadron or maybe a big group of Ravagers? Either way, this is a fun scene.
3. Yondu, Rocket and Groot’s escape from the Eclector – Just the build up to this scene is fantastic. All of the strange items Groot brings to Yondu when trying to get his fin. I mean, seriously a toe! Just seeing Groot holding that made me almost lose it in the theaters. Once that music starts, the scene goes on a whole new level. We got a glimpse of Yondu’s arrow in the first movie, but this time around we see his mastery of the arrow and it is a joy to see.
4. “I’m Mary Poppins y’all!” – Nuff said
5. This one is a spoiler, so if you have not seen the movie don’t read this one. If you have seen the movie scroll down.
Ready?
The Ravager Funeral for Yondu – This scene had my eyes sweating and watching it at home had them sweating even more. Just the use of “Father and Son” by Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam) makes you choke up when the he starts singing. This is such a sad moment in the movie, but it is also great because the team realizes that they need each other to continue on their adventures together. Seeing Kraglin’s reaction to the sight of the Ravagers ships outside is touching. This scene and ending really reminded me of Empire Strikes Back. Such a downer.
Ok, let’s talk about some of the special feature on the Blu-ray. Like most movies there are the usual extra features: gag reel, deleted scenes and audio commentary. The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has all of these as well as a preview of the Mission: Breakout which is the new Guardians themed ride at Disney’s California Adventure.
There is also some visual effects breakdown of some of the scenes in the movies and In the Director’s Chair with James Gunn. Which is the cast talking about working with James Gunn the second time around. One of the great extras, if not the greatest of all extras is the music video for “Guardians Inferno” by the Sneepers featuring David Hassselhoff. This is the best thing that you will see on any day.
