Disclaimer: Fandads were provided with an advance copy of Thor:Ragnarok to review. All thoughts and opinions are our own.
Out today on Blu-ray, DVD and 4k HD is one of the recent funniest movies from Marvel Studios, Thor: Ragnarok. While funniest maybe a big overstatement, it did have a lot of funny movements and that also alienated some people from it. You can read our review of the movie
here, but we have a little more to tell you about the home release.
Being a big Marvel fan, I love seeing how all the movies are connected and are leading up to the climatic Avengers: Infinity War. Thor: Ragnarok along with Black Panther are the last two pieces of this puzzle and if you left the theater before seeing the final stinger than you missed a cool piece of the puzzle. The good thing about having your own copy of Thor is you can skip to the end and see what you missed.
If you have been jumping through bifrost bridges and do not know what Thor: Ragnarok is about here is a quick summary. We’ll keep this spoiler free if you have yet to see it.
Thor comes back home and finds that Odin is missing. He searches for Odin with Loki and meets another Marvel character who leads them to their father. The two find out about Hera and her relationship with them and while fighting her and traveling back to Asgard they are thrown out of the bifrost and Thor ends up on the planet Sakaar.
What follows next is a series of events where Thor meets Valkyrie and the Grandmaster, reunites with the Hulk and ends up finding out what he is really made of. Thor also meets a Kronan named Korg who steals a lot of the scenes that he is in and he is one of the highlights of the movie. One of the cool things about Korg is that he is played by the movie’s director, Taika Waititi.
The Blu-ray comes with 5 featurettes:
- Journey into Mystery
- Sakaar: On the Edge of the Known and Unknown
- Finding Korg
- Unstoppable Women: Hera and Valkyrie
- Getting in Touch with your Inner Thor
6 Extras:
- Thor and Hulk: A Galactic Adventure
- Marvel Studios: The First Ten Years – The Evolution of Heroes
- Team Darryl
- 8-Bit Sequences: Final Bridge Battle
- 8-Bit Sequences: Sakaar Spaceship Battle
- Gag Reel
5 Deleted Scenes that you will have to see for yourself. (Come on, we can’t give everything away now!)
Of course, the gag reel is a lot of fun to see, but one of the extras that stands out is Team Darryl. If you remember seeing Darryl’s previous adventures with Thor you will get a laugh out this new short. This time The Grandmaster is Darryl’s roommate and just watching Jeff Goldblum is fantastic as the Grandmaster. I could watch him as this character all day. Along with Korg, I wish Marvel would do a one-shot of these characters just being themselves or having some odd adventure.
