Going Back to Yo Gabba GabbaLand

Yo Gabba Gabba has been a part of my life for over 16 years. I originally started watching the show before my daughter was born. I would tell my friends with kids about it, and when my daughter was born, I would sit down with her and watch it. The show became a part of our lives, and we would go to the live shows, buy the DVDs, and the CDs. We bought all of the Beanie Baby versions of the characters, and my daughter would carry a Brobee with her everywhere.

By the time my son was born, the show was only available through DVD, and now and then an episode would play on the air. Slowly, he was indoctrinated into the world of Yo Gabba Gabba and became a fan. When the announcement of the new version of the show, Yo Gabba GabbaLand, was announced, my family was excited! We were going to see our old friends again on the screen, and this time with a new host, Kammy Kam. On the day of the premiere, my entire family sat together and watched the first show. It brought back so many memories that there may have been a tear or two shed.

Fast-Forward 2 years, and we have a new season of Yo Gabba GabbaLandon Apple TV. Kammy Kam and the gang are back with 10 new episodes. Each episode has a certain theme with matching cartoons and songs. According to the show’s creators, Christian Jacobs and Scott Schultz, in our recent interview, the process is not that difficult. The creators are surrounded with so much talent that they wouldn’t say it’s easy to create the show, but they have wiggle room to add stuff before it goes to air.

This season, we have episodes with titles like “Go“, “Food‘”, “Try“, “Help“, and “Thanks“. Each one centers around that specific theme and teaches kids valuable lessons. In the “Help” episode, kids are taught that it is ok to ask for help and offer help to those around them. In today’s world, this is a great lesson, because we all want our kids to be helpful to everyone. The “Food” episode solves the great dilemma about pineapple on pizza. While some members of the Gabba gang enjoy it, Muno feels that it is not for him. He does not bash anyone for liking it. He takes a bite and says, this is not for me and he does it in a civilized manner.

My favorite episode in this new season is “Play“. This episode feels like a throwback to the original series, in that we hear some of the original songs with just a little update. It is great to hear favorites like “Party in my Tummy” and “Hold Still” sung again and played on the show. What is great about Yo Gabba GabbaLand is that the music is always so fun and catchy that you eventually find yourself humming it without even noticing it.

Kamryn Smith, AKA Kammy Kam, is a joy on the show again. She brings a tenderness to the role that is perfect for certain elements of the show. Seeing the joy she has when dancing with the gang always feels so genuine. She has had an amazing year since debuting on the show. From filming two seasons, touring with the live show, and performing at Coachella, Kammy Kam has cemented herself as a kids’ show favorite.

The second season of Yo Gabba GabbaLand continues to show why this show is a “generational act”. There are plenty of things in here that will make adults and kids smile. Every episode is filled with joy and wonder for the kids and amazing bands for the adults. By watching the shows together, parents and their kids will not only create core memories but will also have a great time!

Catch the new season of Yo Gabba GabbaLand on January 30th on AppleTV.
