The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie Review

With so many remakes and sequels in theaters it is refreshing to see a movie like The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie on the big screen. Daffy Duck and Porky Pig (Both voiced by (Eric Bauza) are forced to work together to stop an alien invasion that is determined to take over the world. Yes, this is a ridiculous plot but what do you expect from a Looney Tunes movie!

The movie starts off with the audience learning about the relationship between Daffy Duck and Porky Pig. The two were raised on a farm by Farmer Jim and he teaches them how to be good brothers and always be there for each other. The montage of the two growing up is hilarious and heartwarming as we see how they take care of each other. Once Farmer Jim is out of the picture the two are left on their own to take care of their house. Faceing foreclosure, the two try to raise the money and end up applying for multiple jobs to save their home.

During a chance encounter, the duo meet Petunia Pig (Candi Milo) who helps them get a job at the local bubblegum plant. Trying to keep this job, Porky Pig does all he could to keep Daffy in line bit Daffy soon finds out about an evil plan stemming from the plant. Trying to convince those around him of this plan, Daffy is seen as going back to his looney ways and is not believed by anyone. This is where the movie starts to take off and the adventure begins.

The animation in The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is crisp and refreshing. The movie does not rely on 3D animation or other gimmicks to appeal to the audience. Seeing a 2D animated movie brings back feelings of nostalgia and wil hopefully bring in a new audience to the Looney Tunes world. From the fast paced sequence in the factory involving a bubble gum monster to the thrilling final act you can feel the love that was out into each frame of this movie. Hopefully, this movie makes enough noise that Coyote vs Acme is finally released.

Final Thoughts: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a fun time in the theater. There are a few pacing issues with the movie but it is still has some hilarious moments after those lulls. Seeing Daffy Duck and Porky Pig in the lead is a lot of fun since these characters are usually playing second fiddle to Bugs Bunny. These two are able to hold their own and if the after credit tag is to be believed, maybe we will see them again on the big screen.

Kid-Friendly:  The movie is very kid-friendly. There might be a few jokes and images that go over the heads of younger kids but there is nothing too mature in the movie. It is good to have a PG where everyone will enjoy it.

Violence: The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie has animated violence but nothing that is too out of the norm for a Looney Tunes short.

Porky Pig and Daffy Duck venture to the big screen as unlikely heroes and Earth’s only hope when their antics at the local bubble gum factory uncover a secret alien mind control plot. Faced with cosmic odds, the two are determined to save their town (and the world!)… that is if they don’t drive each other totally looney in the process.
