Taking New York with Daredevil: Born Again

There is going to be some controversy regarding the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again that will get people upset. I will not spoil this incident, but highly advise watching the show as soon as possible. Now this moment may feel like a shock tactic by Marvel, but this moment builds to an incredible finale that will have you wanting more as soon as it ends.

It’s been seven years since we last saw “The Man without Fear” in his own series. If you are new to Daredevil, I would recommend going back and watching the Netflix series before starting this one. The love for this character has never faded and that was apparent by the cheers from the audience when he made a brief appearance in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”.  In “She-Hulk” we not only saw a more comedic side of Matt Murdock but we also saw him in a new suit and as deadly as ever.

In Daredevil: Born Again we see that the team of Murdock, Nelson, & Page,(Charlie Cox, Elden Henson, Deborah Ann Woll) have expanded and now have a fancier office than they did before. We also see that Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) has his eyes set on bigger things and he runs to be the mayor of New York City. There are a few parallels with this story and what is going on in the world, but before people start crying “Woke” the storyline of Fisk being mayor goes back to 2017 on the heels of Secret Empire.

Before we dig into the series it is fantastic to see that the opening credits has the same feel as the opening credits from the Netflix series. The series run for nine action packed episodes that pull you deeper into the world that Marvel and Disney are creating. Not only is the world building shown throughout the series but there are mentions of other Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. While a few have been teased at in the trailers, there are still a few surprises in the show.

Each of the episodes varies in length between 40 minutes up to an hour. While it might benefit the show to have a few more episodes, this is a great run for a new season on Disney+, maybe they can expand it in season 2. With the season being short, some of the characters are not fully developed and one story feels under explored. Nevertheless, fans are going to enjoy this show.

The first two epsidoes are a strong start. Episode 6 has great parraelle story between Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock. There is a filler episode that is a lot of fun and hopefully will lead to something in the future. Finally, when The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) is on screen, it is insane to see what he can do when he does not hold back. The banter between Daredevil and Punisher is hilarious and I hope we can see more in the future.  There is an after-credit scene in the final episode.

Final Thoughts: Daredevil; Born Again is a fantastic continuation of the Netflix series that hits you in the gut and does not give you a chance to breathe. Each episode expands the world of the “Man without Fear” and builds the anticipation for the final episode. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’nofiro are incredible and it is great to see both of them on the screen again!

Kid-Friendly: The series is mature rated. The violence in the show is at the same level as the Netflix series. There is an overall theme of what must you sacrifice to do what is right.

Violence: As stated before, Daredevil: Born Again is on par with the Netflix series. There are brutal fight scenes that might make you flinch in your seats.

In Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities is fighting for justice through his bustling law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his own political endeavors in New York. When their past identities begin to emerge, both men find themselves on an inevitable collision course.
