Joining the Rebellion with Andor Season 2

Andor Season 2 takes the viewers on another cat-and-mouse adventure with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) as he tries to do the right thing by crossing certain lines. From the first episode, we see him clumsily try to steal a TIE Avenger, and our adventure begins from here. The first season of Andor was a phenomenon. Viewers looked inside at the rebellion’s beginnings and learned more about Cassian Andor himself. It was an amazing character study of the man we all got to meet in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

As stated in the last paragraph, Andor Season 2 dives deeper into this world, and the audience learns more about the many facets of Cassian’s life. The relationship between Cassian and Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) sometimes becomes more complex. Cassian and Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) bring a softer side to the harshness of the many deadly missions Cassian is on, and it is great to see these moments for him. Cassian is always so focused on what he must do that when you get to see him relax with Bix, you want nothing bad to happen to him, but we already know the road his life leads to.

Speaking of the bad side of Andor, the audience sees more of the relationship between Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) and Dedra Meero (Denise Gough). It is great to experience the other side of this war. Seeing a more humane side of the Empire in these two characters continues to bring about the theme of who is doing the right thing. It feels fulfilling to watch this relationship and see how it plays out.

Andor Season 2 consists of twelve episodes that vary in length, with the shortest episode being 42 minutes and the longest being 58 minutes. Each episode feels like a mini-movie that expands the world we saw in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. By carefully watching, you can see the pieces being put in front of you that will change the way you view Rogue One. The writers have done an amazing job of treating this series like a drama and not just a sci-fi show. Some of the themes we see this time around are the most adult things we have seen in Star Wars. There will be some moments that will have audiences second-guessing what they just saw.

We have been lucky to watch the entire second season of Andor, so here is a quick one-sentence review of each episode.

Episode 1 – Fantastic way to start a season

Episode 2 – The chaos here is pretty funny

Episode 3 – WOW! Two things we have never seen before in the Star Wars universe. How are fans going to react?

Episode 4 – A familiar setting and seeds are being planted.

Episode 5 – New and familiar faces.

Episode 6 – Ok, the pace is starting to pick up!

Episode 7 – Who is this person, and why do they know this skill?

Episode 8 – This episode is intense!

Episode 9 – Did he just swear? Here is our Luthen Rael speech moment of this season! No, you’re crying!

Episode 10 – A story we didn’t know we needed!

Episode 11 – Another fantastic and edge-of-your-seat episode.

Episode 12 – Bravo to the team behind Andor! Those final moments are freaking great!

Final Thoughts: Andor Season 2 shows how raising the level of maturity in a Star Wars show can elevate the medium. Each episode is captivating, although it does take a few episodes for the show to pick up the pace. Diego Luna is perfect, and Ben Mendelsohn is fantastic in the few moments he graces the screen. Andor Season 2 will make you rewatch Rogue One in a different light.

Kid-Friendly: Season 2 does have a few adult elements that the first season did not cover. Not only do we see sci-fi violence as in the previous season, but we also see characters dealing with addiction. There is an attempted assault scene, which is a first for Star Wars, and the aftermath of that event. I would suggest this for kids 15 and up.

Violence: The violence in this show is the same as in any Star Wars movie. There are images of the aftermath of an attack on a crowd. There are a few curse words said in the season. Some of the hand-to-hand fight scenes are a little more brutal than what has been shown in previous Star Wars movies.

Lucasfilm’s Emmy®-nominated thriller “Andor,” returns for its long-awaited conclusion on April 22. The second season takes place as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound. Rife with political intrigue and danger, the series is a prequel to “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” which portrayed a heroic band of rebels who steal the plans to the Empire’s weapon of mass destruction—The Death Star—setting the stage for the events of the original 1977 film. “Andor” sets the clock back five years from the events of “Rogue One” to tell the story of the film’s hero, Cassian Andor, and his transformation from disinterested, cynical nobody into a rebel hero on his way to an epic destiny.
