Seeing Elvis on Stage again is EPiC

There is a moment during his rehearsal when Elvis Presley goes into singing “Something” by The Beatles. It is interesting to see because many people think the two acts come from different eras. Seeing Elvis sing this song and talk about his respect for the group is great. In Baz Luhrmann’s documentary/concert film EPiC (Elvis Presley in Concert), we get a new look at the “King” told in his own words.

While researching his Elvis Presley biopic, Elvis, Baz found some never-before-seen footage of his Las Vegas residency concert. He took the footage and cleaned it up to present to a new audience. According to Baz, “I had researchers go into the Warner Bros. film vaults buried in underground salt mines in Kansas and, to the astonishment of all, we uncovered 69 boxes (59 hours) of film negative that hadn’t been seen. In addition to this, Angie Marchese (VP of Archives and Exhibits, and curator at Graceland) was able to unearth some never-before-seen Super 8 from the Graceland Archive.”

Unearthed Footage

The entire documentary highlights a lot of the footage that has been unearthed. The audience gets to see moments from Elvis’ early life, and it is chilling listening to Elvis talk about it. From talking about getting a guitar to playing in his first show, Elvis narrates his life to the audience. It is fun to hear him talk about himself and about those who supported his career. Things get pretty interesting when he talks about The Colonel. The song choice that plays during this moment is pretty funny.

The highlight of the documentary is the Las Vegas concert itself. Seeing Elvis come out on stage and the way the crowd erupts is mesmerizing. The way the ladies all jump and scream is reminiscent of seeing how the audience reacts to the Beatles. Elvis was a showman, and seeing this concert reminds you of that. Within the audience, you also see celebrities from that time enjoying the show. Watching how they talk to Elvis after the performance also shows how they were fans of him.

If you are a fan of Elvis Presley, you will enjoy EPiC. Seeing Elvis on stage again will remind you of what a great performer he was. From the audience cheers to the roar as he shakes his hips, Elvis knew how to control the crowd. Elvis gave it his all at every show. He made sure to give the woman what they wanted by going through the crowd and kissing them. By the end of the concert, you feel like Elvis personally performed for you. If you feel like hearing the concert again after leaving the theater, you can purchase the soundtrack through various retailers.

Final Thoughts: EPiCis a fantastic concert film/documentary that may introduce Elvis Presley to a new audience. Watching Elvis rehearse is a special treat, and watching him perform is also amazing. Using Elvis’s own voice helps bring the viewer inside the mind of the performer. Baz’s sense of showmanship is a perfect fit for what Elvis has to offer, and that is a winning combination.

Violence: There is no violence in the film. Kid-Friendly: EPiC is great for kids of all ages. If your kids do not know about Elvis, they will learn all about him and see what a fantastic showman he was.
