Being Amazed by the Champions of Magic

The Fandads were recently invited to check out the Champions of Magic, and we had an amazing time! The show was a multisensory sensation that kept my son and myself at the edge of our seats. The show is currently playing at the Studenbaker Theater until August 23rd.

Here is a quick recap of the show. We arrived at the theater a little early to have enough time to find parking and walk to the venue. Once inside, we checked in and took our seats. I highly recommend using Parkwhiz and parking in the Grant Park South Garage. We only paid $13 for the parking, and the walk to the theater was about two minutes.

On to the Show!

We were presented with a video introducing us to the magicians who were about to perform. We were given a brief history of all of them, and then the show began. The performers were Young and Strange, Liberty Larsen, and Fernando Velasco. Each performer had their own time to shine on the stage. Young and Strange opened up the show with an act that can only be described as horrifying. Young was placed inside a cardboard box, and Strange was piercing it with wooden skewers. Even though we were sitting close to the stage, it was impossible to try to figure out how they did it without hurting someone.

Liberty Larsen’s portion of the show was great in that she involved members of the audience. It was a detective mystery dealing with a missing object. It was fun seeing her tell the story while doing tricks. There were many visuals within her story, and seeing the final result was pretty spectacular! Make sure you pay attention, and maybe you’ll figure out how she did some of the tricks.

Walking on Air

Fernando Velasco will blow your mind. His act consisted of escaping tough situations, the Bear Trap, and making you question gravity with an incredible laser illusion. I loved hearing his stories about his grandfather and seeing the stars, and how that led to his love of magic. It was a great way to learn a little more about him and his passion for magic.

The entire group united for the final act, and that was indeed a showstopper. The music, the outfits, and the pace of the tricks felt like a huge Las Vegas spectacular. I will say it was hard to keep up with all the tricks they were doing. The tricks were so exciting and thrilling that as soon as they ended, I wanted to see them again! That’s how fantastic the finale was.

Champions of Magic is a show that will make fans of magic cheer, and those new to magic want to learn more. All of the performers gave the audience their all and left everything they had on the stage. We were lucky to meet the performers afterwards, and they were so generous with their time that they performed a cool trick for us. Even at such close range, I was still baffled as to how the trick was done. Maybe by watching the video, you can decipher how they did it.
