There are a lot of great cartoons out now that show different dynamics or sides of fatherhood. We no longer see dad as the bumbling buffoon who does not know what’s going on but now we see a more involved dad. We see a dad who is there for his children and tries to be the best version of himself. Terry is a dad that is trying to be there for his kids but his job makes things a little bit difficult.
By the title alone you can already tell what Terry’s job is. Yep! Terry is a bounty hunter but not any bounty hunter, he is Sabo Brok, the galaxy’s most feared bounty hunter. Sabo would give Boba Fett a run for his money. We see from the opening of the first episode the lengths Sabo would go through to get his bounty. The action from the opening moments alone are spectacular and rival any action sequence from your big budget science fiction movie.
The first episode introduces us to Terry’s family. We meet his wife Tess and their children, Lisa and Sean. While Terry and Tess are separated, they are co-parenting their children and it seems trying to work things our. Yes, Terry has not been as reliable as Tess wants him to be but he is trying his best to make things right. Terry is taking the kids to be with him for the weekend when it gets a visit for an important mission. This is where the adventure starts. Lisa and Sean decide to sneak into Terry’s car and become stowaways on his lastest mission.
The entire series deals with not only Terry finding out that his kids have stowedaway on his ship and how he is going to get them home but on the relationship that they have. This is the heart of the show. We see how the relationship between Terry and his kids grow. As with parenting in general, the kids learn something about Terry and he learns about himself through them. Parenting is not an easy job but being a bounty hunter and a dad makes things a little tougher.
Speaking of tough, the creators of the show have thrown in some easter eggs from various sci-fi series in the show. The shows creators Everett Downing and Patrick Harpin have had their hand in many of your favorite shows and have put a lot into this show. “They gotta work for these easter eggs,” says Harpin, not wanting to spoil any surprises, before sharing, “There are some Predator references. There’s also a Predator 2 reference somewhere in it. We steal from the best sci-fi,” Adds Downing, “I will say there are also Aliens references as well.”
