The Furious will Rock your World

From the moment The Furious starts, we know we are in for something special. The movie gives a general overview of where it takes place and then drops you into the story. A journalist, Matiia (JeeJa Yanin), is looking into kidnappings of kids in rural areas and is following a lead. Once inside, she has to fight for her life while trying to rescue one of the kids. The fight scenes in these first few moments of the movie is just a taste of what is to come throughout the movie.

The Furious, directed by Kenji Tanigaki, is the action movie that we have not seen on the big screen in America for a long time. Teaming up with famed producer Bill Kong, who gave America Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and the live-action Mulan, the duo wanted to put out something that had not been seen before. The Furious is that movie, and people will be talking about it for years to come.

What’s the story?

Wei Wang (Xie Miao) is a mute handyman doing small jobs while his daughter, Rainy (Enyou Yang) shares his work online. There is a little tension in their relationship, as he wants her to study karate, but she wants a regular relationship with her father. After a small disagreement, she runs away and gets herself in trouble. Wei chases after her and runs into some of the guys who are kidnapping children.

Navin (Joe Taslim) is an investigator looking for his wife and trying to bring down the kidnapping ring. His path will inevitably cross with Wei, and they must team up to find their missing loved ones.

Action, Action, Action!

Once the story gets into motion, we are gifted multiple action sequences that outdo the one before. The three main fights are the club fight, the ice factory fight, and the 5 V 5 fight. Using his hands and, at times, a ball hammer, Wei shows the audience what a determined father will do to find his daughter. The sound of the hits vibrates off the screen so loud at times that you feel the hits. During the ice factory fight, the two men meet an immovable fighter, Ho (Brian Le), whose big stature is deceptive. Ho moves with a grace similar to Sammo Hung that needs to be seen to be believed.

The 5 V 5 fight is one that will go down as the best fight ever caught on film. Yes, that is hyperbole, but after you see it, you will feel the same way. The way this fight is choreographed makes you wonder how many takes it took to get it right. From the camera work to the camera angles, and down to the actors, this fight is a visual masterpiece. I can not wait to see the behind-the-scenes footage on how many of these fights were filmed.

Talking to The Furious

We were lucky to interview various members of The Furious. In each interview, we learned a little bit about the characters and how they worked together to create all of these scenes. Producer Bill Kong talked about potentially making more movies after The Furious, while star Xie Miao talked to us about the mystery that is his character. Watch all the interviews below.

Final Thoughts: The Furious is the best action movie to come out this year. The action is brutal and intense, and will keep you on the edge of your seat. The main story is touching, and Xie Miao does a fantastic job of showing his emotions without speaking. Every fight scene shows something new that we have not seen on screen before.

Violence: The film is very brutal and not appropriate for children under 16.

Kid-Friendly: The film deals with a child sex trafficking ring, violence against kids, and some intense action. This is not for younger kids. Parents, use your discretion if you think your kids should watch this.

After the daughter of Wang Wei (Xie Miao) is kidnapped by a criminal network and he receives no help from the corrupt police, Wei sets out on a rampage to find her himself. His only ally is Navin (Joe Taslim) – a relentless journalist whose wife has mysteriously disappeared. Fueled by a furious vengeance, the unlikely duo ruthlessly fights against the kidnappers in this explosive martial arts showdown.
