Disclaimer: The Fandads were invited to see Disney On Ice: Mickey’s Search Party. All thoughts, opinions, and dancing in the seats are our own.
Going to the Disney on Ice shows has been one of the things my family started doing when my daughter was old enough to enjoy them. Whenever the show would come to town my wife would get tickets and we went and enjoyed the show.
In the latest show, Mickey’s Search Party, Captain Hook’s pirate crew have stolen a magic wand and captured Tinkerbell. Mickey and the crew take a map from Mr. Smee and this map has riddles that they need to solve. Throughout the show, the gang, with the help of the audience, uses clues to solve the riddles. This leads to a performance from one of the many movies highlighted in this show.
Being that we have been lucky to attend many Disney on Ice shows, it is pretty cool to see how they have all changed from the first show we attended to now. No more do they have a static background now the background is interactive. Depending on the song that is being performed, the background projects scenes from that movie or elements that compliment the song. It’s a great marriage of performers and technology.
We all have our favorite Disney movies and seeing them performed live is always a cool thing. I get teary-eyed seeing and hearing the Genie sing and perform. Aladdin was one of our favorites growing up and hearing Robin Williams’s voice just takes me back to my younger days.
Speaking of young, I was not so sure if my daughter would be interested in going to see the show. My daughter is at the age where she no longer is into princesses and has heard “Let it Go’ a million times already. Nevertheless, she enjoyed the show, and when “Let it Go” came on she cringed at first but then silently sang along.
The entire show is a lot of fun and the one performance that stood out for us was Coco. It felt so magical seeing all of the characters come out and perform while Miguel sang “Un Poco Loco”. It was one of the best moments of the night. Seeing ourselves represented on the ice was a great way to be reminded of how important it is to be seen. Even if it was just for one song, Coco had the entire audience up and dancing.
The show is great for the entire family and you will definitely have a great time. The songs will bring back many memories of your favorite Disney movies and they might make you go home and rewatch some of them again.
