Uncharted Home Release Review

I have been a big fan of the Uncharted video games series since the first game came out. The game played like a movie and it was just great to see where the story was going. It seemed that every game that came out after had bigger and badder action sequences and did not lose the heart of the game. I remember my wife watching me play Uncharted and getting so wrapped up in the story.

As the years passed and the games kept coming out there were always rumors about a live-action movie coming out. While every fan of the game had a particular actor to play the lead role it ultimately came down to Tom Holland getting the titular role. Rounding out the cast was Mark Wahlberg as Nathan’s friend and fellow adventurer, Sully.

I did not get the chance to see Uncharted in the theaters and I feel like I missed out a little on seeing some of these fantastic action sequences on the big screen. The movie is full of many moments that mimic the big action sequences from the video game. Scenes like these will satisfy the lovers of the game but the action scenes are not enough to hold this story together. While Uncharted is a movie filled with amazing action the story part feels a little rushed. I will admit that after the opening sequence it took a while for the story to catch my attention. I know that this is the first movie, in hopefully a series of movies, and maybe in the next one, there will be a better focus on the story.

When it comes to special features Uncharted comes with a few that give you a good look into the creation of the movie. Some of my favorite features are the ones having to do with the stunts in the movie. It’s always great to see how much the actors try to do on their own and how the scene is rehearsed and planned out. I like these features because it highlights those behind the scenes that do not get as much credit as the actors do.

Uncharted is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-Ray, and Digital

Street-smart thief Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) is recruited by seasoned treasure hunter Victor “Sully” Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg) to recover a fortune lost by Ferdinand Magellan 500 years ago. What starts as a heist job for the duo becomes a globe-trotting, white-knuckle race to reach the prize before the ruthless Moncada (Antonio Banderas), who believes he and his family are the rightful heirs. If Nate and Sully can decipher the clues and solve one of the world’s oldest mysteries, they stand to find $5 billion in treasure and perhaps even Nate’s long-lost brother…but only if they can learn to work together.

Final Thoughts: Uncharted is a fun movie with some amazing action sequences. There are a few moments when you feel like you are watching the game play out in front of you. There are a few issues with the storyline but the action makes up for those little errors.

Kid-Friendly: While the movie is PG13 the violence and language in this are not like any Marvel movie that is out there today. There is a good deal of cursing in the movie and most of it is said by the main actor of the movie.

Violence: If you played the game Uncharted before you know that there is some violence in the game. You shoot people. You throw people off of buildings and sometimes choke someone out. A lot of these actions are repeated in the movie. While they are not brutal or bloody, they might be a little too intense for younger viewers.
